ETHANOL IN BRAZIL

A Multi-Client Study

Brazil’s three-decades-old Proalcool Program stands as the world’s premier example of alternative energy production and use for transportation. Development of ethanol as a motor fuel in Brazil has endured longer, achieved the firmest foothold, and carved the largest market inroad to date for any non-petroleum transportation fuel. Despite this unparalleled progress, accompanied by its share of publicity and attention worldwide, ethanol in Brazil is still heavily misunderstood, under-evaluated, and controversial. The objective of this study is to deliver a thorough, objective, first-hand review and analysis of the production and use of ethanol fuel in Brazil, so that all entities with interests in this pathbreaking case of alternative fuel introduction can benefit from a more complete and factual understanding of this experience.
